Antibodies From Strange Places
Sometimes, its really amazing to know where scientists find some of their cures. One of the most surprising isnt that surprising if you think about it.
Scientists in England and Thailand have discovered that blood from crocodiles can help them develop new antibodies that will help humans combat such diseases as AIDs and H1N1 flu viruses. If you think about it, theres some sense in this. Crocodiles live in polluted waters, lose limbs, get injured and get deeps cuts from fighting, but they dont get infections or die from disease. In fact, most of them live to ripe old ages. It seems that crocodile blood contains very powerful antibodies which basically destroy everything that could be a threat to them. Researchers have taken these antibodies and tried them on samples from HIV and H1N1 patients, and they have an immediate effect. Greater effects than any other so far. Crocodiles have always had something that people wanted but it was usually from the skins for shoes or bags. Now, the crocodile turns out to be even more valuable than anyone could have dreamed. Now, research will continue and another very interesting part of crocodile blood is its hemoglobin levels which enable the animal to stay underwater for hours. This is also another aspect that scientists want to investigate. There have been reports that the Chinese have used crocodile blood supplements for their Olympic athletes for performance enhancement, and most Western scientists not only agree that is what they are doing but say they are quite right in doing it. Crocodile blood capsules are already on the open market and can be found online easily enough. If they are that much of a benefit to the body, count on prices going up!
