Babies, Milk and Diabetes

Theres new information on a correlation between babies and what effects that cows milk can have on them. From the beginning of time, babies who didnt breast feed have depended on getting their early nourishment from animal milks and in most of the world, thats cows milk.

Now, it is thought that consuming dairy products in early life may lead to an increased risk of diabetes. We have seen a huge increase in childhood diabetes, and this may be one of the culprits. As an explanation, the beta-iactoglubulin in cows milk is a protein that stimulates the growth of antibodies. The problem is that while it is good for building antibodies, they also attack glycodelin, a protein that is vital for training the immune system. In research with children, it has been found that the ones with Type 1 diabetes who were fed cows milk all had antibodies to beta lactoglobulin, the good stuff. And that isnt a good thing. What happens is that the immune system gets disturbed, and insulin producing pancreatic cells are destroyed and that lead to diabetes. While all of this is pretty frightening, the research does allow for some solutions. Now they are working on more studies which will test whether children who consume milk where the proteins have been broken down can be at less risk. Rather than trying to substitute formulas that contain no cows milk with soy products or other solutions, they are looking ath taking the cows milk and redoing its composition. Taking out the bad things and leaving in the good.

It would make no sense to subtract the use of cows milk entirely. Generations have done fine with dairy products and they do have other benefits!
